Upper Northeast Philadelphia is a suburban-like area located along the Bustleton Avenue corridor. Walkability, pedestrian safety and traffic calming are important issues. Public transit is needed to relieve traffic congestion. Existing bus routes are widely used by students and local workers alike. Commuter rail is available at the Somerton, Byberry and Philmont stations. Management and upkeep of retail centers and industrial parks is a concern. Community groups monitor zoning variances and their effect on existing development. Conversion of single family homeowner houses to multi-family rental properties is a related issue.
